Schizophrenia-what we need to know!



Schizophrenia is a mental disorder wherein person suffering from this hear voices, see things that are not real and they are thinking that some people are controlling their mind. Some of their symptoms also include: movement disorder, problem in speaking and expressing their emotions, hallucinations and delusions.

There are 5 types ofschizophrenia:


1.     Paranoid type- Person with this type is thinking of false beliefs or they are preoccupied that they are being punished by someone

2.     Disorganized type- They are confused and incoherent and have inappropriate speech organization.

3.     Catatonic type- They are more on physical symptoms. Person with this type are immobile and unresponsive to outside stimulus or environment.

4.     Residual type- Less severe type. Symptoms include: inexpressive faces, monotone speech and inability to feel pleasure.

5.     Undifferentiated type- A person can be categorized only with this type if they don’t fall to any of the four types being mentioned above.

Schizophrenia can be treated through medication called antipsychotic drugs, psychosocial therapy (Rehabilitation, family therapy, individual therapy and group/support therapy), Hospitalization, Electroconvulsive therapy, and psychosurgery.

People with schizophrenia are not violent. They are just dangerous to themselves. Suicide in the main cause of their death.
